Doing a re-start on a model A after setting for several years. Trouble shooting the ignition system & wiring resulted in a coil replacement, point cleaning & re-gapping. Any of you folks with both T's & A's might offer some guidance ? The ignition coil is "hot" without the key turned on ????????????
Red wire from repro switch goes to ??? side of coil - short black wire from terminal box goes to other ??? coil terminal - why is the coil "hot" ?
Appreciate any guidance.
I did get it running but after the "Grose jet" stuck closed, it ran the carb. bowl dry & quit but is sure sounded good and surprised the owner !
Carburetor was rebuilt this afternoon.
I don't have an A but I've played with a few. Is the lock button all the way out? It may be stuck.

The red wire from the popout switch goes to the - side of the coil in a Model A. The points provide a ground, which is the + side of the coil.
Here's a good web site:

Thanks Guys ! It has a repro, non-pop-out switch.
