Hello all, I am wondering if any of you know where I might be able to source the inserts that go into the steel doors on a 26 Fordor. They look like they are made of brass and the nails that are in the door panels go into these to hold the panels in place. Mac's offers a plastic version but I will have to also update all the nails to a new style to use these clips, any help is greatly appreciated.
Brad, Do you mean these fasteners ? Regards John
How many do you need. I have a few.
One problem with using the old brass inserts is they are extremely brittle. How long they will hold is a guess. The two fordors I have worked on the inserts were not worth taking a chance on. The plastic modern inserts hold much better but I had to sand the tops down so they wouldn't show and this allowed the door panels to fit snugly on the door. Just my two bits again...
The new plastic ones have thicker heads as Don mentions they are also impossible to remove the nail, i tore three holes in the upholstery board trying to remove the panel so i could get to the bottom of the window that had slipped out of the channel, i replaced the nails with screws and upholstery washers #10 size.

Don, if the original brass inserts are brittle, couldn't they be annealed? I've never seen any, let alone used them, just wondering. Dave
