Thank you for another great photo. I would estimate a mid to late 1914 as it has the new style crank handle rather than the earlier aluminum crank handle. (ref: http://www.mtfca.com/encyclo/C-D.htm#crank )

I agree with you -- sitting on the gas tank is not the best way travel. Good news, in this case the engine is not running -- note the crank appears to be engaged and stationary.
