Total 24 pints, or 25 pints with the Improved Ford.

Radiator, water jackets, and hoses 5 quarts.

Oops, that is water jackets and hoses hold 5 quarts, or about 1.25 gal.

The whole system, with radiator will hold (Improved car) up to 3.125 gal. , if more, the Ford will barf the excess out :-)

Remember, this would be a 50/50 mix. Don't by premixed. Get straight coolant and distilled water and mix your own.

I would just use water(distilled) for a first start up. After it has been run for awhile and no leaks have been found, use the mix. JMHO. Dave

+1 to what David said - antifreeze is HECK on paint. Run straight water at first so you can verify no leaks or drips.

Also, having done this the hard way, you don't really KNOW that everything is sealed up perfectly until you actually run water through and know that it's sealed up perfectly.

I bought two jugs of antifreeze for my car. Dump one in, fill it with water, add the water to the radiator, then split the other jug between the two and top them both off with water. Add the 50/50 mix until the radiator is full. Keep the leftover mix handy in case you need to add more. Straight water is easier to get, but I'd rather not forget it until the next spring. Cracked blocks are kind of a pain, or so I'm told.
