Gentlemen,

a good friend is restoring a 1929 model A Roadster Pick Up. It was bought
with no top iron set.

He got a brand new top iron set supposedly original, however it does not fix
correctly in original holes.

We want to know if a 1929 model A Roadster Pick Up top iron set is just
the same as a Phaeton or a Roadster car from the same year. Is there any
difference? Any clues? Is the angle identical to the Phaeton? Do you have
a pattern to check it out?

Thank you!

The Ford Barn Forum would be more likely to have the answers you are looking for. A phaeton would have more bows and would be a longer top.

Rodrigo, I just checked my favorite parts vendor's on-line catalog and they list one top for a 28-29 Standard Roadster : $712 and another for a Roadster Pick-up : $635 so there is some sort of difference. If you check some different vendor catalogs, they may show some pictures of the different tops.

Richard, may I ask you who is your favorite parts vendor?

The top irons are not interchangeable between the roadster and open cab pickup. In addition, the open cab pickup top does not.....if it has been restored as original.....fold down.

Here are a few pictures of a original top for a 1928-29 RPU. Gary in mn.

The top on a 1928 '29 Light Delivery [Open Cab] is not a Roadster folding top.
The pickup top is non folding as is obvious from the photos supplied by Gary.
When new, the tops could not be removed from the cab but when the 1930 '31 style appeared in mid 1930, the whole top could be removed but still non folding.

There are current reproduction roadster top irons that fold but original A roadster pickup irons do NOT fold. Gary Andersons pictures tell the story. The top fabric in 1928-29 was tacked to the belt railing.

Rodrigo, I sent you a PM. There are links to several vendors on the MTFCA web page. I would guess all of them give good service or they would not be listed there.
Looks like you have gotten a lot of good information and answers to your questions here.
Hope all this helps you and your good friend.
