Bill, may I suggest a cheap 3 jaw puller and a hose clamp. I buy tools and gadgets from HF and figure if I get one or two tasks accomplished they paid for themselves.
I tried three jaw pullers. Never stayed on, took three diff pullers till I found one that would not fall off. Took a large hose clamp to keep it from coming off. The lip on the hub is not square, it has a slight taper so claws can't grab. Love to have that old style.
