John Sedgwick was killed by Confederate sharpshooters immediately after having uttered that statement, at a distance of approx. 1000 yards just under his left eye. He was dead upon impact. That did nothing for the morale of his men, unfortunately.

Think about that: killing a man with a black powder rifle, with a .58 calibre bullet at a distance of just over half a mile!
