Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2013: OLD PHOTO - GOING TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY

I've noticed many great old photos posted of folks with their Model Ts. The following picture is my Grandfather and Grandmother in 1917 going to church on Sunday morning. The two kids are my aunt and uncle (uncle still living is 98) and the baby is my Mother who just turned 96 this past June. That Model T touring car is I think a 1913 or 1914 and I played on it as a kid when it was stored in the barn. I remember dreaming of fixing it up someday. That didn't happen because Grandmother sold it in about 1958 for $50. If I can post the next picture, you will see myself and my Mother in a 1914 Model T Touring car we acquired in 2006. See next post. Thanks

This picture is myself and my Mother taken in 2006 in our 1914 Touring Car. She turned 96 this past June and still enjoys the family stories about the Model T that Grandpa had.

My wife and I use our T to go to church every Sunday if there is no salt on the roads. We've had the car 52 years. I'm now 80 and still depend on it to get us there and back.

Thanks for posting. I wish I had a Model T while my Grand parents were still around. Mom has gotten to ride with me in one parade, she is only 80. :-)

Fred,

Great story and so special to still have your Mother. Hug her every chance you can get -- as many of us can no longer do that.

Minor detail - the car in the original photo has the doors that extend down to the bottom of the body which would make it a 1913 model year rather than a 1914 model year. If you compare that to the doors on your car -- you can see how your doors have rounded corners at the bottom and they do not go all the way down to the bottom of the body. Ford had some problems with the rear doors opening and cracks in the wood sills etc. Those problems were resolved with the 1914 style body that continued with modifications through 1925.

Again great story and the model year of the car really isn't that important to the story, but I thought you would like to know what model year the car actually was. By the way, have you ever thought about looking for the original car? If it survived through 1958 there is a good chance it is still out there someone where unless there was a major garage fire etc. If you have anything with the original engine number and/or body number -- it could possibly be tracked down.

Respectfully submitted,

Hap l9l5 cut off

Another minor detail is the height of the horn tubing. Is it mounted on the door or steering column?
