I am getting a gauge but I have some questions about the adjustable part for setting heights. Could someone post some photos of the pieces taken apart with some dimensions. Here is what's on it now.

Or is it correct?

When all else fails, read the instructions.

That is not what I am asking. I have the instructions.

Mark,
If the gauge has been previously set and used before, then you should not have to change anything.

If you have changed it or it was not set by the manufacturer, them you have measure your tool and set it as indicated by the magic formula.

I am looking for the dimensions of the parts shown for checking the the magnet height. Are the parts shown correct, are parts missing? I am not asking about use of tool. The parts don't look the same as what I have seen in both the instructions and illustrations in say Lang's catalog.

Keith, that's a start in the direction I need to go. How long is the piece that the adjustable screw fits into? I need a base to start from to check to find out if what's there is too long or too short. It may be home made and will need to have a smaller screw fitted than what's shown in the photo.

Mine is like the one Keith posted. The total length of the screw is 3 3/4. The little grub screw on the end can be adjusted in and out too, but I didn't check to see how much. The jamb nut on Keiths is too big, mine is the same size as the head on the screw. There is a reproduction of this device, and I'm wondering if you might have one of those? Hope this helps.

Mark,
You asked, "How long is the piece that the adjustable screw fits into?"

Based on your photo it does not look like yours has an adjusting screw. That is not a problem as long as the length of the pin meets this requirement. The length of the pin will vary a little from gauge to gauge.

Royce, why do you like yours better? Looks like it can only check the magnet height and can't be flipped over to determine how much "shim" needs to be added to the field coil... Or do you have another one that does "the other half of the job"?

Update; I now have the gauge in hand. The pin measures 3.528 in length. The base looks to be a replacement and is marked +.002. The casting is not marked Wilson but carries a Ford part number of 24Z-15096-B. I will have to check the length as shown in Rons setup diagram and see how it all compares. If need be I could add a set screw to the one end. Right now H looks to be about 1.670 but that is a very ruff with tools at hand.
