Couple of things I have learned while installing the Kevlar to the metal band. this is for us novices, not the old hands.
#1 it only takes about 20% of the time with four hands as it takes with one set of hands, to install the linings. I used a punch, hammer and vice anvil, as per the band instructions. Last night I did one alone. Tonight with someone to hold the assembly, while I set the rivets, we did the second two bands in less time than I did the one band
#2 I used a big nail set instead of a punch to set the rivets. The indentation in the end of the nail set catches the ends of the rivet better than a punch, and being smaller than most punches, it disrupts the area around the band less.
#3 Resist the notion to put a hole in the band material with an awl for the rivet. It really is easier to hammer the rivet through.
#4 One of us held the band ears together while the other wrapped the ears with a cable tie to keep them in place until the shafts are replaced.
Good info Doug, I know my time's coming!
For #4, the T-3416 CW Band Clamp and Wrench is a very handy tool. Most of the vendors carry it.
