Reminds me of a certain line from that song...
"When she blows out a tire, just wrap it up with wire and the little Ford will ramble right along."
Jay, don't sell that tire short. Somewhere I have an old tire repair book that shows how to peel the rubber back, stitch in layers of new cord and re-vulcanize it.

"Dang WalMart tires!"
Somewhere i have an old book where it instructs on how to stitch in pieces of old tyres into holes like that and when i took it to the tyre shop and asked them to do this to a new tyre that cut a huge cut in it they told me "No way".
They certainly won't do that today. Back in the 10's and 20's tires were more expensive to buy than the labor to repair them. Just like body shops that replace parts on cars now that would have been pounded out and refinished years ago.

they weren't so concerned about liability in those days either.
Just stick a liner into that boot since they have it off the rim. Good for some more miles. If the tires gives again, wrap an outer shoe on it!
Cars go faster today and those repairs would have thrown the balance out enough to make driving at high speed uncomfortable.
