I am restoring a 23 runabout and noticed that the firewall had four rivets with some type of material on them that goes between the firewall and the cowling. Anyone know what the material is and where you can get it?

The Langs one is felt. It's what they used back in the day. I feel that if it does get wet, it will just hold the moisture. The felt was used because that's what they had and while it helped keep the moisture out of the coil box I think it was used more to prevent rubbing noise between the cowl and firewall.
I put some Dum Dum between the cowl and firewall. It's a black tar like substance that is used to seal joints. It is put in place after every thing is painted and is used as part of the assemble process.

I believe a '23 uses 5 rivets. In 1925, they knocked it down to three!
