Hello, I've noticed that the fuel shutoff valve in my sediment bulb (the upper one with the long handle) is very picky as far as the position required to fully shut off the fuel. If it's off by only a couple of degrees of the proper position, gas leaks around the outside of the bulb and drips on the floor (only a drop every few minutes, but enough to keep the garage smelling of gas). Is this normal, or should I be looking at getting a new sediment bulb?
I have had good luck re-seating the valve surfaces with tooth paste. It may only need cleaning and is best to take it off the car and all apart but could be done in place.

Yes, I'm serious.
The aircraft grease that Lang's sell also does a good job of sealing it,and it will turn easier.

Thanks for the suggestions, sounds like I'll be placing yet another order to Lang's!
I finally got tired of a slight fuel leak at the sediment bowl---permatex seems to work for a while but eventually it leaks. I tried "fuel lube" as offered by UNITED ERIE (www.ez-turn.com), and that fixed the problem.
I now seal all gas line fittings with it--no more drips......Paul
If you have the time, I'd remove it from the car, and clean it up real good. Seating the valve is a good idea too, and that special grease. I've done a lot of them. If you remove it, check the screen in the cover, and replace the lead gasket if it needs it.
