You asked, "what is the piece that between the lower spring and the frame?" Really the drawing is not quite correct for a 26/27 but there are two layers of the frame at the point the radiator bolt is. On a 26/27 the "extra" layer is on top of the frame C section and not pre-26 frames the extra layer is on bottom of the frame C section.

Thanks Jim,I assume that the springs are the same for top and bottom. My early "26 (October '25) had originally the small treaded bar (stud washer nut) but then who knows if that was original
