Here is an image we have seen here before and it is one of my all time favorites. My question is regarding the items on the drivers side of the engine area. What is that?

Two six-volt hot shot batteries.

I was wondering about batteries, but why that location? They also look like cans for an oil system?

Next question: were they feeding buzz coils, or a disturbutor? I'd bet a disturbutor.

Would that be the best location if you had to add a little weight onto a car for that type of racing?????

A little bit further back would be better, about centered between the axles. For a car that only turns left, offsetting weight to the left side is also good.

Some would put the weight as far back as possible to try to improve the balance, but I'd argue that a smaller polar-moment is better than perfect balance as it makes a car easier to rotate, and easier to correct from over-rotating as well.
