A while back Tom Rootlieb offered on the Classifieds section to award a Running Chassis to a winner of an essay contest that he would run he did this in an effort to promote the hobby to a younger generation. A member of my family was reading the classifieds that evening and asked me to enter the contest. Without hesitation I said “ absolutely “ a poster board was made, essay written, and videos of her driving in a local church parking lot copied to a memory stick and shipped to California for Tom to enter into the contest. All of these memories happened over the last 11 years, driving for the last 3 years
Today the car was delivered to our home, Olivia who turns 11 at the end of the month is a proud girl. Her and I worked for about three hours to change the oil, rig up a gallon gas can, change the carburetor, adjust the bands and fill the radiator.
After a few minutes of messing around we had spark, and a quick tow from her grandfather, we were driving up and down the block.

Inspirational, I am excited to see this kind of interest from young folks as well as the assistance from parental units to help make a dream come true. And what a great idea from Tom. Congrats to all.

Very cool!! And obviously she got more that just a running chassis. What a great start to a new generation T'er. Cheers to Tom Rootlieb.

Others with the wherewithal should step up and make this an annual essay contest.

Too bad she's not ten years older, i've always wanted to date a lady who had her own T.

Jerry, even if she WERE ten years older she would still be 30+ years younger than you. Why would a beautiful young lady with her own T be interested in you?? =)

I'm thinking this is a story for the Vintage Ford with updates on Olivia's progress every so often. Also, I think there are a lot of us who would donate to some kid who was interested if we knew who needed some things and that they were actually working on a T.

TT

We met this nice young man and his T Coupe project on the Montana Majestic Mountain T Tour back in 2010. His name was Adin, if my feeble memory serves, and his project was under the tutelage of Mr. David Cooley. Like Olivia, Adin had lots to learn, and to look forward to on his project. Congratulations to Olivia and our hats are off to the Rootlieb Company & Dave Cooley for thinking about the future in a positive way. Here's two cases of folks getting young folks interested in the hobby. Are there any more out there ???

Check out the grins !! W

Just wanted to give an update to the progress of Olivia on the car. We had it running and then she had basketball games last weekend plus a lot of homework, so not progress. This weekend though we took it to my work and she drove around for about an hour.
