Generator needs to be grounded or hooked up to keep it from destroying itself.

You need to figure out if the problem is no spark or no compression. Shorting out the plugs one at a time at idle will tell you which cylinder is dead. After that you can easily see if the plug is not firing or if there is a problem with compression.

Not sure what you mean about the coil bolts. A picture might help.
Another classic cause of missing and low power is a leak at the intake manifold.

Do you have the wiring hooked up correctly? A crossed timer wire? Did you rebuild the coil box?
Could be something simple in the wiring.
If the wiring is not correct to begin with none of the other checks will help.
I bet its something simple.

Paul

We need much more info to help. As Royce says, pictures are helpful.

You said nothing about valves. Was the car running before all the work. A simple compression test by putting your thumb over each spark plug hole while someone is cranking the engine is a rough test.

Suggest you take out all plugs and lay them on the head with the correct wires attached. Turn the engine over slowly with the crank. Do they fire strongly in the correct 1-2-4-3 order ?

If all these tests pass try spraying wd40 around the intake manifold. Any change in idle means you have a leak.

Good luck
