Does anyone do them? Repair replace the rim latch and straighten rims as needed? I could not find any company doing this on google. I need one to finish a repair
I don't mean to be negative, but that rim may be to far gone. Getting it to run true with that bend is going to take a lot of work. I would look for another one.
Dave you may be correct. I just bate to dispose of old parts vs at least try and repair first
I picked up a few rims that needed a little work.
One had a missing ear,I just happen to bump another ear and it fell off! So I thumped the other 2 ears...they fell off. If I had used that rim a good bump would have popped the ears off.
So,I only use good rims now. So far I have found 6 n.o.s. rims in the last year.
Look around and find a better rim.
Take the tire off and go after it with a 5 lb hand sledge and an anvil. What have you got to lose? It will take a lot of work, but if you can get the edges to butt up smoothly and the rim measures round without a lot of lateral runout, you might save it.
David,
If you can find another "junk" rim with 4 inches of good, you can cut out the bad section of yours and the same size piece from the donor and splice it in. Then cut the "split" and make a latch. It's not hard. The first one I did like that was years ago using only a hand hacksaw, stick welder, and side grinder. There was no internet and good split rims were hard to find. But, that's one of those things that you need to do yourself. If you have to pay someone, you could buy a good one cheaper.
