What are snap rings made of for 23" TT wheels?
Is it just rod bent into a ring and if so what diameter rod?
Thanks TOM
I have 20's on my TT and the snaprings are machined to fit and "lock" into the wheel. If not exact they will jump off and kill you! Don't try to use a bent rod.
I do not think 23" had snap rings. Only 20" had them. 23" have a split rim.
Mike and Leon I have a set of 23 in TT rear wheels for sale and they are 3 pc, wheel, snapring, rims, I've not taken them apart as it just makes more pcs to lose, but this is the 3rd set I've run across in the last 5 yrs
John , I have seen these rims too but they were not a stock wheel for the TT. I think they were for a later vehicle other than a Ford TT and I wonder if they would even fit on the Hayes Wheels.
Kelsey did make a 23" rim with lock ring, their No.120, it came on 1922-25 Cadillac and 1920-27 Lincoln. Could possibly be adapted onto a TT truck rear wheel. The Kelsey No.120 wheel has 8 lugs.
I just sold one 23" TT rim and 2 lock rings to a T'r in Australia. Those rings are not round, they have somewhat of a teardrop shape to them. At least these did. They were wedged between the rim, wheel and lug bolts. They didn't come off easy, but there was no spring force behind them either.
There does seem to be a Kelsey 23" 3 piece TT rear wheel that had been used at one time. I have seen them on TT's with correct TT hubs & drums. The teardrop lockring goes between the felloe & rim on the outside, and the Kelsey rim is held on with removable lugs if I recall correctly...
Scott,
If it was on Ebay, I was the guy who ran up the bid on your Australian. So does anyone have any more 23" snap rings??? Or a set of 23" wheel with the rings.??
Have this 23" rim size clamping ring. $45
