Having decided I needed to remove tank for some rust treatment I thought it would be a good time to relocate the tank and seat back some to allow for better steering wheel/belly room. Looking for input from others who have done this as to how much I should move it aftwards.

Leave it where it is. Just make new backrest supports, and move back rest back 2-3 inches makes a big difference.
We may need to know exactly how big your belly is to give a correct answer. One easy way to do it is to first mount the tank and straps to wood cleats, and then attach that assembly to the frame using the existing frame holes. This has the added benefit of raising the tank a bit for better gravitational force. Moving the tank aft a couple of inches should help a lot. Hard to know for sure(check first sentence).
Thanks guys. I'm an X large - 6', 225 lb. and steering wheel is too close for comfort. Moving back rest support back would work but it makes for an overly deep seat (front edge to back rest). Ray, that's interesting. The same idea came to me this morning. I had planned on using blocks to raise the tank a bit and it followed I could also use them to relocate the tank w/o making new holes in the frame.

I built my hack with the tank in the stock location, and find it a little too close. I plan to move the back of the seat a little.
I had the same steering wheel vs. gut interference and moved the back of the seat back just 4" on our hack. I left the seat bottom as it was and made a small "shelf" that extends in front of the seat bottom. The result was a very comfortable arm length to the steering wheel and makes entering the cab much easier. I highly recommend moving it back and leave the tank where it is.
