What is the oblong hole and round hole below it used for?

My low steel firewall/dash has one also. Could have been early from a car or replacement.

Carb adjusting rod goes through the oblong hole on my high hood cars.

I don't remember the round holes and I'm 500 miles from my cars.

Looking at Kirks photo I had to look at my firewall. My hole is ragged and been ripped open to join both holes with nothing stuck thru it. Any idea what it was used for? Any one look this up at BFRC?

Click on the Lang's link above and think of how you would get either end of it through the firewall if the hole wasn't elongated!

Mike, my carb adjusting rod goes through a smaller elongated hole above the one in question.
