Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2013: OT - I supplied another Christmas tree to the county

Every four years, the county commissioner for our part of our county in Texas provides the Christmas tree for the court House. This year is the second time I donated a tree. Cedar trees are used for Christmas trees. The tree is placed on the court house grounds and some decorating is done by local schools.
When the decorating is completed, I will try to get a model T near the tree for a photograph.
The tree just got removed this morning, here are some photos of step number one.

I didn't think governments were allowed to have a "Christmas Tree" for the holiday or is this really a "Holiday Tree"? But then again you're in Texas and I live in California.

For the record in our house we have a "Christ" mas Tree.

Over the years I've tried to give away free cedars for Christmas trees, and I've had mighty few takers. I guess cutting it yourself is too much work.

Philip, some decorating in most cities in Texas is common. City government do some and so do the counties. I do not know what the law actually reads.
Steve, My parents and my family always got the Christmas tree out of what we called the woodland. We currently do not have any young people in the family, so not much decoration is done. Sometime I do put some christmas light on a tree next to our driveway and the FM road at the end of the driveway. (we are in the country so there are very few neighbors)

Steve, here people drive down from the city just to cut their trees. We have a line a mile long (not kidding) of people waiting their turn. Then they stop in town and get something to eat. They all have their trees strapped to the tops of their vehicles.

We have no shortage of cut your own lots here in Oregon and Washington and there are lots of people that cut their own.

Willie. It looks as if trees grow sideways in your part of the country :-)

As for me and my family we have a Christmas tree at Christmas with Christmas decorations and give Christmas presents to each other on Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Not to perpetuate another political discussion, but I'm about tired of the freedom FROM religion people interfering in my freedom OF religion.

Fred, the trees are following the example set by some oil companies. They are also drilling horizontal. Life is sometime hard to understand.

Merry Christmas to all

OK. The tree is horizontal and I am vertical

Life is good :-)

If you suffer from allergies, you had best leave the cedar tree in the field. A cedar tree will last only about 2 weeks inside before it becomes a tinder box.

I suspect a fir, or a pine, or any other tree will dry out indoors just like a cedar. That's why you're supposed to set them in water.

Right on Steve! Any live tree needs water. Dave

Steve, the county sets the tree outside and near the court house building. They put the stem in the ground and I believe they water it and try to keep the tree alive. After all, Christmas is not here yet.

Willie. - I have heard about attempting to root cuttings but that is ridiculous :-)

Fred, you are not attempting to grow roots, just to keep the tree green for about a month. We used to use a tree stand in the house that had a bowl on the bottom to allow watering of the tree.
It worked.
