Almost 110 years ago (January 1904) Henry Ford became the first man to drive a mile under 40 seconds (91 mph). However, due to the cold, Spider Huff had to ride on the engine manually operating the carburetor:
Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company would receive priceless recognition for the daring accomplishment. Ford Motor Company will become the greatest auto builder in the world, and Henry Ford the richest man in the world:
Spider Huff, in turn, would receive $50 from the FMC Board of Directors:
Sometimes it pays to be in upper level management.
Happy New Year
Rob,
I had a friend of ours from Texas tell me...When I talked to Ed "Spider" Huff yesterday he said he didn't ride the side of the car that the newspaper only staged the photo... more of Fords PR dept crap. He said that Spider ran beside the car and held the carb open with a string!
Happy New Year
Wow, he should have entered the Olympics. At 91 miles an hour he would have won a gold medal for sure!
Dennis, Are you related to Royce? Just asking Scott
Robert,
Texas is a big state. Why would you even think of mentioning Royce?
Rob Heyen knows that I'm messing with him.
Happy New Year to all!
This is a tough crowd. I may not talk to you guys again.....this year.
