I am building a 1919 non starter engine. Can I add a generator to this block? I have two different timing covers and neither of these will allow for a generator. I assume all I have to do for the starter is change the flywheel so it will accept a ring gear,
And change the hogs head. Is this right?
It depends on which block you have. The 1919 change from the T-400-C non-starter block to the new T-400-D wasn't until a lot of the old ones had been made. If you have the earlier type there's no place for a generator.
To add a starter I think you also need to change to a later mag ring that has a notch for the Bendix.
The car will probably have the new mag ring, but there is more to consider. If it is the late '19 as Steve pointed out, you are in luck. You need to find an instrument panel, and a whole lot of other stuff, which should be fun to do. You will also need all new wiring, unless you want to jury rig it.
