Hello,

So i am in the process of building a body for my speedster that will eventually have 26/27 wire wheels. the back of my body will hopefully look similar to this Mercedez SSK

So my question is...

1. Does the profile of 26/27 wire wheel tires differ much from manufacturer to manufacturer?

2. What is the overall height of a 26/27 wire rim with tire fully inflated? I need to know this measurement in order to make the section on the back that hugs the tire on the back of the SSK. I am thinking overall diameter plus 1 1/2 inches to account for 3/4 clearance around the tire.

Thanks a bunch!!

Nathan, the 27 wire wheels with 4.50 x 21" tyres are almost as large as 30 x 3.5" clincher tyres. The profiles of different brands of tyres do vary a bit. I have just changed a set of new Coker 21" tyres for English Dunlops, which were on my speedster, because they are bulkier and look a little more adequate for the job.

In days gone you could go to 5.00 x 21" or even 5.25 x 21", but i have no idea whether these sizes are still available to you.

Hope this helps.

Allan from down under.
