ATTN! Forum Administrator. CHRIS ?

Alias "Georgeapril" has posted a number of ads Today from Viagra to AK47s, nothing to do with model Ts or parts. He joined today and posted 15 ads today all SPAM. I realize the time limitation of the Forum administrator, but perhaps this could be done with a software patch/app that automatically delays posting by new members for 30 days or what ever is prudent, many forums have waiting periods before being allowed to post. if You need members to help prescreen ads to help assure they are old car related, I would be willing to volunteer.

I think we should have a few members have a list of new registrations and let them accept or decline them.

To sort out the spammers from good users from the start. (Sorry, should have added this to my first post.)

Jim,

There is no practicable way to prevent this from happening on a public forum.

It has been suggested before that access to the forum to post be limited to dues paying members of the MTFCA.

Perhaps better than 80% of the registered MTFCA forum members do not contribute financially in any manner to the MTFCA.

There IS a way to prevent this on a public forum.

Each new member has to have his post(s) approved by admin. PRIOR to having his post(s) published. Once the new member shows he is NOT a spammer, he can have his posts published like the rest of us.

This practice has prevented spammers on several other forums that I am a member on. Sure is nice to NOT have to deal with spam like we get here.

Jim and John are on the right track.

What I am talking about should be simple to implement, just a delay between joining and posting. It could be as little as a 48 hr hold which would stop the majority of the problems, which are same day join and post. The system is automatic when they register.it posts their join date, just program it to delay post privileges for a given number of hours/days before they can post, This alone would be a big help, I have not seen any post's for life or death supplies on this forum. Everything I have seen could wait. Radio Discussions, a forum for Broadcast enthusiast's has a waiting period before new members can post. One of the posts here was for counterfeit money. and a AK47 which require a Federal firearms dealer license to sell, and a high dollar automatic weapons license issued by the Feds to possess. Like "GAS" this too will pass only to reoccur from time to time if not addressed, My two cents worth, maybe less.

Terry, that's a good idea, but even though I'm not real educated on just how the admin. of this forum works, and altho I think there's more than one person involved in it, for the admin. to approve EACH posting here would be a daunting task. If not
impossible given the number that are posted every day, even with others helping. And keep in mind, unless I'm wrong, these are VOLUNTEERS...they do have a life of their own. Sort of. JMHO

Tim,

The admin. person does not need to approve EVERY post, just the new members. It's a safety procedure to keep spammers and foul mouthed(fingered) posters from ruining the experience for the rest of us.

It's just a suggestion I have been through and have seen work effectively elsewhere. It could work here as well.

I agree with Terry & Sharon's suggestion.

We'll kill the admins having every post approved, but approving requests to be able to post is reasonable. People can still lurk, it just slows down the posting. Some crap will still get through but not much.

I'd volunteer to help with the screening. I work Sunday through Thursday nights ending at 3 am pacific, so different hours than most.

All of that said, I'd much rather deal with the spamming crap the way we are now than limit the forum to dues paying members. We NEED to be accessible to people with an interest in the cars, nut just with an interest in the club.

It's sort of like going to church.... you can join a congregation, but they won't stop you from participating in anything but voting if you choose not to.

The coding for the forum is old and any changes would be expensive.
Who pays?
The lurkers?
The none MTFCA members?
Oh of course, the MTFCA members.....

This is a PUBLIC forum.
Anyone can post.
If you donít like the post, donít read it

Personally I would prefer a private forum, accessible only to MTFCA members, but meanwhile this is public forum, so live with it and stop moaning. JMHO

Actually Tony, its you who seems to be doing the moaning. Lurkers are probably better served by the average T owners like the rest of us, and not by someone like you who thinks this is some private club you have to join to be involved in the conversation about Model T's.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for the referral.

Thank you for driving all the way up to Lake Elsinore to look at the Model T Roadster for Nan & Vernon.

Her daughter Megan will put it to good use at their ranch in Black Forest - I put her in touch with Ron in Denver to help get it running.

Hoping you enjoyed the West National Tour.

I am looking forward to the Richmond National Tour and Homecoming next month.

Jerry Kramer and the other Tony along with a lot of MTFCA volunteers are working very hard to make it a success.

Thank You for all the Tís you have got running and keep running down the road .... :-)

FJ

John, Iím not being elitist, I just believe that there is no free lunch. I like to pay for what I receive. Some folks donít, they like to live on the charity of others.
Another thread suggests a donation when you sell anything using this forum, I think that is a great idea.
