Does anybody know what the Bendix drive stop nut thread is? I took the Bendix apart to replace the gear because the weight is loose and want to clean up the threads before putting it back together.
Thanks,
Stephen
Stephen Heatherly:
I pulled one of my bendixes out of the bendix drawer and I hope found one with out the nut I HOPE you are asking about. I am not a machinest or even close to one but I think the threads are 24.
Maybe some else knows for sure.
Stephan
The Bendix Drive Head and Drive Shaft spring retaining bolts are 5/16-24 thread.
Also make sure you have the original style bolts with the thin head. Many reproduction bolts being sold have a thick head and can push the Bendix Drive cover off the transmission cover.

Oops, I did not notice you wanted the Stop Nut thread size. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ron, how about posting the picture that you sent me earlier showing the NOS and current reproduction bolts side by side with dimensions so that folks know what to look for?
If it isn't handy, do I have your permission to post it?
Not very often I can "add" to something a "T" guy like Ron Patterson said, but in this case I will add merely the fact that his comment that the wrong replacement bolt with the thick head that can "push the Bendix Drive cover off of the transmission cover" is "EXTREMELY" important! It can cost you an engine if this happens while you're driving, because a damaged or even loosened Bendix drive cover can cause the loss of "ALL" crankcase oil very quickly,.....and by the time you hear the rod knock,.....it's too late! (Don't ask me how I know this!)

Go!

Here is a picture Ron sent me showing the differences in head height between NOS bolts and the current reproductions. Note that the reproduction bolts have thicker heads.
