I just picked up a Stahl magfixer, a search turns up a few period articles, but nothing I can read. Does anyone have a copy of the instructions for this unit?
Not that I intend to use it, just curious.
Thanks, Brian

Some scans from the sales brochure, no specific instructions, but this may help.

Thanks Jim! It's an interesting conversation starter at a car show. I suppose you could try it on a car with a bad magneto I don't think I would hook it up to my car tho!

Like Brian I too just purchased a Stahl Mag Fixer and very much appreciate the info in this Forumn. I intend to try it on my 23 T, with a 25 engine this winter. My mag has quit and I hope this instrument will help me isolate the problem. I will try to, post my results. Thanks Gentlemen for all your inputs. I have had a few of these apart and the spring loaded switch is a good idea since it gives a short connection without sparking something outside the box. That is about all that is good about these things. The idea that you have a repaired "good-to-go" mag ring after you have BURNED AWAY shorts is a joke at best and a disaster for a good mag ring at worst. I strongly suggest you totally ignore the idea of burning away shorts since the forced high current into the mag ring is more likely to heat up the coils and make them come loose from the mag ring thus filling your motor with spaghetti. It is OK to try an "in-the-car" recharge only when you have absolutely nothing to lose but if you think you can make a good mag stronger by this method - please rethink it because you are far more likely to damage something that was working and now no longer does. The number of batteries often suggested for recharging magneto magnets in the car assumes you are using very old technology batteries which had fairly high internal cell resistance. Modern battery is capable of way higher peak currents so be very careful. I successfully recharged my son's roadster once with 18 Volts and that was plenty. You will be dealing with some very large currents so be careful and think seriously about just skipping the whole thing and pulling the motor and repairing the magneto the correct way. The rebuilt mag rings are excellent and you should never have to redo the magneto again if you just do it right the first time.

your mileage may vary.

This thing rates right up there with MMO for snake fixing.
