You are correct. It is a 1912. Very early 1912 because it has the step-side body and the straight top door (as opposed to the dip door.)However, it looks to have the 1911 type two-piece dash and 1911 equal-half windshield.
If this picture was taken in 1916, I would speculate that this car saw a lot of wet weather. Take a look at how much the rear door panel has shrunk! On my late 1911 the original door upholstery had hard cardboard backing and the upper part was leather and the lower part is artificial leather.
