Hey Guys,
I'm new to the Model T forums. My names Dave, I'm a 22 year guy, who's a Technician at the Apple Store in Grand Rapids. I'm looking to find some mentors and some guys who would be willing to show me the ropes of being an owner of a Model T.

I don't currently own a "T" yet, but I'm hoping to soon,. (Actually picked up a second job at Harbor Freight to start my "T" fund) I'm hoping to finds some guys near Grand Rapids area who could show me there cars and teach me a little bit about them when the weather gets better.

Looking forward to joining the community and hearing from you guys.

Dave

Dave,
Welcome to the "community". And a great one it is. I recently moved to Seattle and brought my T from Michigan. I connected with two T experts from the Puget Sound Model T Club. They looked over every nut and bolt on my T and helped get it running. They made suggestions on repairs, etc. Many thanks to Ray and Walt.
Its a great day, when your T purrs like a kitten.

As we like to say, welcome to the affliction. Michigan is crawling with T people, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them and a car. If you check the lists here http://www.mtfca.com/clubpages/chapters.htm#mi and here http://www.modelt.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5:contact-you r-local-chapter&catid=2:contact-us&Itemid=15#MI it should be easy.

If you'd like to do a bit of research before you start shopping, here's a place to start.

Steve is correct there are LOTS of Model T people in Michigan. Gordon Koll lives in Grand Rapids. Go to the MTFCI website and look at the committees tab. His email is there. He can help you a lot. You may also be interested in the Michigan Jamboree in La Peer (near Flint) this August.
Welcome
Mike

Hey, David, welcome to the club! I live on the east side of the Great State of Michigan, but would be happy to assist you with any questions you may have. I remember when I first joined the T community I felt really clueless - but there are indeed LOTS of good people out here with some REALLY valuable advice who are more than happy to help a newbie. This site has been invaluable to me in my restoration project and I am forever grateful for their kindness. So if I can pass on anything I have learned I'm more than happy to do so! Good luck finding a car - do you have anything specific in mind?

Guys, thanks for the greetings. I've constantly monitored forum post and stuff even before I decided to join, this place is a wealth of knowledge.

Mike Z: Thanks for the info on Gordon, I'll look him up and see if he'd mind meeting up.

Kenneth: I love the HFMGV complex and will definitely try and make it over there for the Old Car Festival.

David: Mishawaka's not that bad of a drive, maybe when you have a weekend that your working on it, I''l bring a six-pack down and you could show me some of the stuff your working on.

Bill: I definitely want a touring, 1919-27. Wouldn't mind making it a semi-daily driver to Apple, I just don't know where I'd plug my iPhone in at..... lol, I'm hoping to spend around 5-7K for a semi-decent Touring that runs. I'll hopefully be able to afford one in 6-9 months.

David

David, if you get a chance, start looking at auctions in your area. This is auction season and there are always model t's showing up. If you learn enough beforehand, or can take a guy with you to look it over and hear it run, auctions can be a great way to get a car. I'm a young guy who just got my first Model T. I wanted a wooden cab TT truck to play around with on the farm. I would recommend buying a nice strong runner over a prettier but badly running car. You can always redo seats but a well taken care of motor is worth much more. Also, hop on eBay and get yourself a manual. They were written for everyone to understand and teach you a ton. I learned to drive a t before I bought mine by watching (and obsessively rewatching) lots of how to videos on YouTube.

I'm not much of a T expert (just got my first one back in August), but I live in Charlotte and would be more than happy to show you my car. Of course, to get to my house, you'd have to pass Mark and Phil Eyre, so you might as well just stop there since they've taught me pretty much everything I know about these cars.

Dave, look up Gord Kholl. He lives in Grand Rapids and can help you a lot. He has a roadster that is a stynoski (spelling) winner. Very nice person and very willing to help.
