Looking for a fan belt formy '27 Coupe. I saw where a Model T parts company was selling rib belts for Model Ts. Is this a good substitute for the flat belt.
Randy Stevens:
Go to Ace hardware and get a flat GATES BELT, it will last you a life time.
O'Reilly has them too.
Dave & Steve- what exactly is a GATES belt- what application is it for? If I walked into an ACE what would I ask and look for?
Gates is a brand name. They've made fan belts for many moons.

Here, O'Reilly does not carry them short enough to use in a model T. So they ordered one for me. The last time I bought one, it was about six bucks. I didn't ask first this time (mistake). When it came in, it was almost $20. Should have ordered the right one from Chaffins.
My experience.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
The "ribbed" belts are timing belts. The'll last a lifetime.
Gates Vulco #811 is a 23" belt. I expect different lengths are available, but I haven't looked for them. That price Wayne encountered may be because of a rip-off shipping charge by the local store. That's why I won't buy anything at Fastenal.
