After the problem with the fill pipe on my radiator on my 19 I looked at the radiator shell clips on my 23 TT so see what they looked like. I was very surprised to find that the radiator shell on my 19 touring car did not have the same holes for the small bolts and the radiator its self did not have the mounts like on my 23TT. Is this common or did Burgs not put the mounts on the new radiator. Giving the absents of the mounting holes in the shell I'm wondering if it ever had the shell holding clips. I will be back at my summer place next month to look at the original radiator I took off the 19.
The shell on the low radiator is just held in place by the neck and the mounting bolts. Some of the parts catalogs list the 1/4 20 shell mounting bolts for 17 to 23 which are not needed. I am not sure if the tall radiator for the 24/25 used them but 26-27 did.
The high radiators I have seen all used them. KGB
Thanks Keith. All the cars I seem to work on are low radiator or 26-27.
Aftermarket radiators don't have the brackets fitted. They come separately. I found this out when my new radiator arrived without the brackets supplied, they were sent separately. I had to fit them. Some people are lazy and throw them away.
Peter
how do you attach those brackets to the radiator? My new radiator did not come with them attached either, I did not throw mine away.
G'day Tim,
Mine were supplied with rivets. I just measured an old radiator to get the location, and confirmed with the shroud.
