I have a tube that has a taper along its length ,and one that has steps as it comes to the front
Question. with one is 26-7 and can ether one be used on a 26 ?
Thank You lorenzo
Yes, if the end that bolts up to the d.s. roller bearing spool is identical. Early torque tubes had a cast end with a lip which utilized the "closed" (used studs as opposed to bolts) spool - clear as mud ?
The Rodda book says the use of the tapered and stepped tubes overlapped, but the stepped tube was used until the end of production. I'd go with that one.
Steve, you are right about the earlier torque tubes having a lip which went over the closed pinion bearing housing. However, on our Canadian sourced cars this lip was eliminated from torque tubes with the separate casting at the rear to fit the newer exposed bolt type bearing housing. Then came the later tubes without the separate rear casting sweated on.
