This was on the forum about a year ago I think, but yesterday I was preparing to put a good used controller shaft onto my car, and oiled up the brackets. One side would not take the oil, so I removed the felt which was a hard as a rock. That explains why it wouldn't absorb the oil. This bracket was the late type with the round holes verses the earlier square ones. So I punched some thick felt I had laying around with a 1/4" punch, and slid them in leaving a gap at the top, and now it absorbs oil. I've talked with people who didn't even know the holes in the frame were there for them.
Oil those two places on the cross shaft every 500 miles.
