I have an interesting dilemma. In the past few weeks my T has been exceedingly smoky a couple times. Once was when I backed it into my garage and anther was today when I came to a stop sign I was in a cloud of oil smoke. A few seconds later everything was normal. I can't think of anything that would cause a T to smoke at times and be OK the remainder.

If I was in a modern I would look for a sticking EGR

Overfilled with oil?

Sometimes, with a model T, if the engine is filled (maybe a little over filled?) with oil, going downhill or slamming to a stop, oil will will slosh forward to the front of the motor. The rods splash a whole bunch of it up onto the cylinder walls, some of it slips past the rings, and smoke flows out the tailpipe.
I do not know if that is what happened, or not. But unless excessive smoke becomes a regular (most of the time) thing, I would go with that.
Did you add oil a couple weeks ago?
If excessive smoke does become a regular thing, just remember, one of the joys of a model T is that a set of rings can be installed in a day (provided you do not find anything much more serious).
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Fred, On earlier engines, there was not a drain 1/4 hole inside the valve doors, oil fills up and is sucked into the valve area and then smokes. To stop it just drill two holes inside the bottom of valve chamber or look at another newer block to see where to drill. This happened to a friends 14 and it cured it.

It is a 1919 - Oil surging may be the answer.
I run it full - slight drip from the top petcock - the smoke occurred when I backed it into the garage and when I came to a stop sign
Both times the car was warm so the oil had the ability to flow easily.

Do a compression check, maybe a ring has broken. I would check it out before it gouges your bore.

Fred, you said that already. Are you getting forgetful?

Mine smokes more when it is a little over full of oil. Hardly at all if oil is between petcocks.
