A lot of the photographs are mislabeled or misdated. For example, the "1940 Boeing Stratocruiser" picture is actually from about 1949. The first flight of the prototype Stratocruiser was on July 8, 1947.

Great pictures though.

I'm not sure about the 1940 picture of San Francisco Air Port with a Jet sitting in front. Very interesting pictures Ricks thank for sharing.

Bob

Yeh, Bob, that's a DC-8; no earlier than 1958.

Really cool pictures. Thanks for the link Ralph!

When I was a kid my uncle took me to San Francisco Airport, around 1958 or so, to see the new jet airliners take off and land. It was really something to see at that time. I can remember the building in the back ground of the S.F. airport photo very well.

Interesting to see the air traffic control radios setup in picture 15. The rack on the left contains on the top apparently a Hammarlund SP210 receiver and below 3 different National modified NC100 receivers. Those were modified from prewar (also used in WWII) NC100 receivers specifically for aviation tower use. I have all but one of the bottom receivers in my collection.
Ralph, thanks for the great link!
