When I was 3 years old, I opened the door to go outside and there was a rattlesnake on the doorstep. Our Cocker Spaniel got between me and the snake, and took the bite instead of me. The dog ran away and we kept calling for her. Three days later she came home blind in one eye, but still alive. At that age, I didn't even know what a snake was! I do remember looking out the window and calling for the dog. Mom wouldn't let me go outside and play.

There was a HUGE one on the road about 2 miles away. I didn't stop to see if it was dead or not! Supposed to be near 100 today, I imagine they are all out of hibernating now!

When I was three I saw my aunt Mary's little Scottie dog, Sandy, grab a snake in the middle and shake it to death. He once got hold of a snake in the kitchen, and Grandma and my aunts had to clean snake off the walls and ceiling.
