I finally got my hogshead to go on but now the band lining appears to be too thick because the ears on the bands are too far apart.I got the nuts to start and I tightened them a lot and I'm not even close to the springs. The bands were perfectly round when I put them in.I have 4 sets of bands and they all appeared to be the same size,The lining is cotton and did not appear to be unusual, any thoughts on this? Fritz
Throw away the cotton and buy wood.
Ricks how are you doing, and you are very correct about wood
Fritz, if possible post some pics, I bet lots of folks here could diagnose it better if they were able to see the problem, instead of some people just giving you orders.
Hey John, Ricks is doing great.... he has wood !..... wood band liners that is.
Fritz, what brand of linings did you use? I have many sets of Wards with the blue trim and Sears with the red and green trim linings that do the same thing. They are thick for a reason. The new linings aren't nearly as thick as the original replacements and don't last as long either.
Don't worry about the spring. The bands will need some periodic adjusting to get them to settle in and after that they will give you good service if used properly. I have over 12,000 on my Wards low band with at least a third of the adjustment left.
