What network will be showing it today?
I'm not a spectator, but this is a little different.
Found it 1:30-4:00 PDT on NBC. Two and a half hours for a two minute race.
CC came in 4th
The chrome's, fading.
Should have used nickel....
Poor horsey! Sure was rooting for him. Maybe next year.
The owner sure showed the class that comes with money, whining about how his horse lost because all the other horse owners were plotting against him....hope he doesn't own any Fords, he'd be cussing at Henry every time it didn't start...
He probably has less money than any other owner. They bought the colt for $10K. He and his partner are small businessmen.
For that kind of money, there's plenty of plotting. He was complaining about the rules, which he takes as unfair to horses that have run in the prior two crowns pitted against those that are fresh.
My concern or interest in the whining of people who race horses can be measured in micro-give-a-shyts.
Sorry, it's late but horse racing? Yawn.
That's funny right there. I don't care who you are.
Back when, when I was into sailing and also racing my one-design boat, rather than my cruiser, the "big deal" was similar...the guys who had the deepest pockets could always buy the races throughout the season with their up-to-date custom sails made from the latest material designed to use the windflow to the max, expensive hull designs, etc. This is why I raced one-design. Strict rules, you won or lost on your own skills. No doubt horse racing is the same. Chrome's owner does make a good point, in keeping the Triple Crown circuit sort of the same "one design, closed circuit" rather than bring in a horse that hasn't worked itself to death in the previous two races. JMHO, fwiw.
California Chrome has worked hard all its life, It can now retire and enjoys its last few years supporting the glue industry.
In the light of day and feeling a little less cranky and tired, I see my post was perhaps a little abrupt. My apologies for the offense.
Hey Danial,
I thought your comment was spot on. I can not believe that a race horse owner would possibly think that horses that are better than his should not be allowed to race against his.
The triple crown is not a three race event, each race is a separate event, and the thing that makes a triple crown horse so great is that it can compete in all three events and still win. The races are so different that an owner with a horse that can run distance but not short sprint, is not going to waste their resources entering a race that he can not win.
Yeah, Danial, don't worry about your comment. I opened the thread expecting to read something about aluminum foil.
However, I do like the "little guy against the big bucks" aspect of this whole tale. I hate to hear about the owner "whining" about their loss. I would think they have earned a rightful place in the books already and should be holding their head up high! Too bad to spoil it with some childish behavior.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Wayne,
Thank you for your first comment.
In the spring to late spring, I work out of country continuous and don't have TV access to western news and don't go out of my way to find internet news. Have found that life and stress seem to work better that way.
So when I saw the topic first appear...I let it roll for a while without opening it because I just figured that it was some super paint that made Oklahoma Chrome look bad!
Even when I opened it up and read RD first comment, my brain registered that maybe it was a 'car show' or maybe a 'Meecham' type event.
So...it's a horse eh? Got it now. Yeah, didn't win-place-show for triple crown but somehow being a 3 year old now without a care or worry in the world, and girls brought in all the time isn't a bad life I'd imagine.
I figured than anybody who cared would recognize the name.
RD......
That's just it, in my isolation I had never heard the horse name before...
That's why I do like the open OT forum here, it's a substitute for a morning newspaper...anything important happens...it's on here one way or the other...lol
