For my 16' touring:
I have restored sockets,
I have new oak bows.
I have a new top,
but I have near zero time.
Is there anyone near Charlotte NC or Columbia, SC that I can hire
to do the install?
Before anybody takes it upon themselves to advise me that it is easy and how I can do it myself, please re-read the part where I stated that I don't have the time.
Private email welcome
Michael,
Have you already called Smith & Jones Antique Ford Parts there in Columbia SC and asked them if they had a recommendation? If not, I would suggest contacting them as they have been involved in the T & A hobby since 1972. Their phone number is 803-822-4141. And of course someone in the local T club might have a recommendation -- their web site is: http://www.scmodeltford.org/ .
I would guess that the new bows still need to be fitted to the top irons. If so be sure to clarify that as I would think there are more upholstery shops that would gladly put the top fabric on but a much smaller number that would be familiar with fitting the ends of the bows into the oval 1915 style top irons. Also to specify that the bows are the oval style that require more effort to fit the top socket than the later rectangular style.
Good luck and let us know what you find out. Others in the area may need some similar support.
And the next meeting of the South Carolina Model T Ford Club is Sat Jun 28 there in Lexington, [touches Columbia, SC]. (It was slipped from Jun 14 to 28 due to Father's day weekend.) It will be a cookout and tech session. Terry Smith from Smith & Jones will be sharing information on general maintenance, necessary fluids, oil and grease, and the basics of Model T care. If anyone wants directions to that -- please see the web site and contact the club there or drop me an e-mail and I'll send you the directions/address. [You can click on my name and my e-mail address is the third line down or you can send a Private Message (PM)].
Respectfully submitted,
