My wife and I have recently completed a fairly long motoring trip in Australia, unfortunately in a modern (1982) car.
The story of the first two days of the trip is posted here-

Which engine does your SD1 have? From all the fuel refs, I guess it's the 3.5 V8.

I had a 2 litre 4 cylinder version which was excellent - being bottom of the range it had none of the extras which go wrong!

Dane,

Thanks! I was thinking of you last night as I reviewed one of your e-mails with the links to the "Improved Ford" advertisements you had located in Trove. It is always good to find out folks are doing well and I enjoyed the photos your posted of Australia.

Respectfully submitted,

Thanks Chris for correcting the link. The car has the Rover 3.5 V8 engine. Our USA cousins might be interested that the engine was first used in vehicles by an unmentionable U.S. maker. Maurice Wilkes of Rover bought the rights to the aluminium blocked device, and Rover workshops improved it, then it was fitted to a range of cars from about 1965 onwards. Two models from the early days of this engine had the suffix 'b' added to their name to indicate the V8 was fitted. There were various versions and capacities. It found its way into Land Rovers, and I believe still in production untill the end of the 1990's perhaps beyond.

Thanks for the comments, Hap. I will post links (hopefully correct ones) as I manage to get more of the story written and posted.
