I'm reinstalling the rear window in my 1926 Tudor. I have a new weather strip and am using 3M adhesive. My question is where to use the adhesive. I was thinking that the weather strip would get 'glued' to the body and the window glass would be in the weather strip dry. Is this right?

The glass shop that put in my rear window used black RTV. A bit in the gasket for the glass, then around the perimeter (applied to the metal only) for a good water tight seal. Excess RTV was allowed to dry then cut out with a razor blade.
