Jack,

I'm glad you are through the surgery and we will be praying for a speedy recovery. Also be sure to follow the doctor’s advice – especially about lifting things. We had a friend that almost over did it trying to move some suitcases. You a have new card “I just recently had open hear surgery” and be sure to play it anytime someone asks you to do something the doctor said don’t do.

At the moment we (or at least me) don’t have enough data points to be able to say if the Fisher Body number does or does not help us date when the body was produced. In the case of some of the open car body makers, they included a date code in their body numbers – so that made it much easier. But I am still hoping to gather additional body numbers for the ones without an obvious date code to see if there is a linear relationship between the body numbers and the engine serial numbers or not. For the 1918 fiscal year (Aug 1 1917 to Jul 31, 1918 Ford has listed that 35,697 Sedans were produced. And at that time the Centerdoor was the only Sedan being produced. (Ref page 462 of Bruce McCalley’s (R.I.P.) “Model T Ford” We know that Wadsworth also produced Centerdoor bodies but what we would like to find out one way or the other, is there or is there not a relationship between the engine serial number and the body number? There is not a direct relationship between the touring and roadster body numbers and the engine number. But there is a good trend relationship between them. But there are also a few “outliers” with known original like cars with over 6 months between the engine serial number and the open car body number date. But those are unusual.

When you have a chance – and no rush – follow the doctor’s orders etc. – would you please send me some photos of your car and the engine serial number if you believe it was original to the car. You can click on my name at the beginning of this post and it brings up my profile. My e-mail address is the third line down. Please put Model T or something similar in the subject and it will be read much sooner.

For an idea of how we are doing on the open cars please see the Forum posting “Home for the Holidays” at: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/29/40322.html) .

And if anyone else has additional information or a Centerdoor body number, please let us know.

Respectfully submitted,

Hap l9l5 cut off
