Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2014: Time to terminate "Reluctate to post"
Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Walter B. Szumowski on Friday, June 27, 2014 - 05:52 pm:

I have read with dismay all the postings regarding this subject. Many hobbyist's know who I am and we have had conversations both one on one and on the phone, as a matter of fact I saw some of you just a couple of weeks ago. Everything for political correctness to insensitivity to quotes from Plato and Abe Lincoln too using the forum for private gain were mentioned and all the posters have no idea nor any facts why I do not post. So if I may let me present the facts. Awhile back I was debating a topic about a restoration we had completed, the details of that exchange are not important. What is important was one of the responders to the debate posted a picture of a physically challenged youngster. That reply angered me and after that I refused to participate on the forum. I was blessed to give of my time on some projects that involved challenged youngsters, in addition I had the privilege going to one of Chicago's Public schools and instruct students on careers in my field of employment. I did receive an e-mail from a hobbyist that posts on a regular basis "Bud" Delong sent me an e-mail apologizing for the individual that posted the picture. So words, picture and conjecture matter. I will always try to help a hobbyist and am willing to debate a subject if the conversation is civil and name calling is left out. We have a sufficient amount of rancor around us. It's difficult to believe this journey started with a restoration and it ends with a field coil that was left many question marks. I will try to post a picture of this coil, Kim Dobbins told me he took one out of car number 314 that is exactly like the one I took in as a core with the exception of the reinforcing rings. I have something but I am unsure what I have.

Walter-
Please post on the forum. I know a lot about Model T stuff because of this forum. I also know a lot about a lot of people on this forum. However, I don't know much about you.

I know I have a magneto ring that you rewound in one of my cars, and forum members often steer customers your way. But that was about all until I read your post. It is commendable that you took the time to go to the school to instruct students in your field. Maybe some will be interested in the Model T, too! We need more young people!

It is unfortunate that there was an insensitive response from your post in the past.

Please post a picture of the mag ring you have. Maybe someone can identify it. Be sure you photos is small enough.

: ^ )

Keith

Now that I've found this thread I'll put in my 2¢. Maybe the person who posted the offensive picture was a jerk. Maybe he just had a lapse of judgement. Either way, I wouldn't let one person cancel out everybody else. If there were a lot of nasty, hostile people on the forum (we've had a couple), I could understand reluctance to participate. But the good folks here are such an overwhelming majority I wouldn't let one pill drive me off.

Hay Walter, Don't let a few of us cranky old men scare you off from posting here.

Here's me at my part time job. :-)

Walter, I bought a ring from you last year and was impressed with your attention to detail as it related to both the transaction and the quality of the product you shipped to me.

Upon reflecting on this most positive experience, I was curious why you were not a regular participant on this forum. Knowing the history now, all I can say is what a shame it is that a tasteless remark (or in this case image) from one misguided person would deprive this forum of your wisdom and talent. Thanks for coming back.

Walter

I am relatively new here when compared to many of the "old guys".
I can easily say that I appreciate the wisdom of experienced T folks and think that it is a shame that guys like you allow one or two idiots to drive you away

There are idiots everywhere - when you let them control what you do or say you and we loose

Sorry to be so blunt - but get some balls and stand up for what you know is right

Need to find the book that has instructions to post pictures. Also trying to locate the hobbyist that I got the coil from. We have done a ton of coils and a handful of early stamped steel with 3/8ths wire but have never seen one like what I have now.
In the near twenty years we have been doing coils the hobbyist's all have been top notch. I have learned more from them and their cars then I can write. We have had conversations from advancing the ignition 2 1/2 degrees to installing later field coils in early cars too which is the best of all the coils Ford made.
Fred and Charlie after 40 + years of dealing with the public NLRB, NTSB, FAA, grievance hearings and testifying in Federal Court plus other venues I just want to be the cranky old guy in Jay's drawing. I have never been driven from a debate that is factual and civil. One of the posters said "We all have the right to dis-agree but we do not have the right to be dis-agreeable".
Enough said back to looking for the book on how to post pictures.

Wally, I'll bet, instead of remaining silent and just leaving, that had you voiced your opposition, at the time, to that tasteless photo and why, you would have had an army of support for your view and perhaps instead of you leaving, the person posting the photo would have left in shame taking an important lesson with him. It is best to speak up for whoever posted that photo may not be aware that he did anything wrong. Jim Patrick

I've seen his work. Judging by that, I bet he has plenty of T expertise to share. :-)
