well, the threads don't appear to be 7/16 - 24. Seem to be closer to 25TPI so am wondering if they are m 11 x 1?

They are probably 3/8-27. 27 tpi is the standard carburetor thread.

Hi Stan

OD of the valve thread is .434 (virtually 7/16"), and the threads are almost a dead match for 24 TPI on my gauge, but are a tad finer (but definitely not 26 TPI per my next available gauge though...27 TPI is not even on the radar.

I made a chucking tool with 7/16 -24 threads and it's fine so long as I'm not trying to hold more than 4-5 threads of the valve body. I tend to be anal about these things and would like to have the correct tool for my job in the future but hate to spend money on specialty taps when I'm just guessing.

I have several L-2's to rebuild and am adapting a NH style viton tipped float valve into the old valve. It works really well on the first carb.

I'm going to this trouble because I don't see anyone carrying an old style float valve or rubber tipped valve for this carb. I prefer them over the solid metal tipped needle and really prefer them over the grose-valve.

thank you so much for your input and for taking the time to offer advice...I wasn't getting much traffic on this subject!

regards,
