What does it take to get a ring gear off? I have removed all of the bolts, and it does not appear to just come off. Will a little persuasion with a drift and hammer do it, or is it pressed on?

Persuasion - brass drift & hammer will do !

It's a very close fit and will need some persuasion/tapping to come off.

Steve Jelf also has a video on how he does it.. Can't find it now, but maybe he will chime in.

Cheers
Justin

Actually I think that video was for the pinion gear. Sorry.

Give it a bop with the brass mallet. Always pops it loose.

Ring gear, rear axle or flywheel?

I bought a couple of brass mallets (different sizes) from Tbay just FOR T work!

If you lack fancy tools, like brass hammers, a piece of wood between the regular hammer and the ring gear usually works fine. A short piece of 2X4, broken hammer handle, or even a model T wheel spoke should do the job just fine. That ring gear usually comes off easily if you circle around and around a few times with short drives.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, the ultimate cheapskate, W2

A brass hammer from Harbor Freight tools works just fine. Got mine for 12.00 as I remember.
A few good taps evenly on either side will do it.
