Did you find your ignition (condenser) problem ???????
Steve: My Mom & Dad took a trip up to Big Bear to work on some projects there (Steam Boat, etc.) over the 4th of July. He hasn't had a chance to follow up on the 22 Racer and the ignition issue. We're still working on the '27 Coupe over here. The Harris family has too many projects
Thanks for the update Bill. Figured as much - seems like too many chores & not enough daylight !
We had blown a head gasket and had to remove the head. The coil is mounted on a bracket fastened to the upper water outlet where it attaches to the cylinder head. The ignition wires are very pretty and are fitted with RAJA spark plug connectors. So I left them alone but when checking the wiring I found that a dear friend had removed the distributor and got it 180 out of phase. Not only that, the short wire to cylinder number one was actually too short and had worn through so it had a dead high tension short to the side of the distributor. I did not know that my associate had got things messed up when he attached the cylinder head to the block because he had cranked the engine over a few times looking at the cylinder walls. I found the error while checking the timing with a test lamp across the points.
The moral of the story is not to let dear friends play with your toys while you are working on the bench. But I did get a lot of respect from the dogs and cats in our neighborhood. It purrs like a kitten and does not bark like a dog. ;~)
