I removed the aluminum transmission cover on my 1914 Touring to try to stop bad oil leaks. The mag post has an outside oil line and did not have a gasket. It was attached with sheet metal screws not machine screws. I have several questions before I re-install the transmission cover.

The bands had detachable ears. One band is a Scandinavia.
1914 Scandinavia band

I don't know about the other two. What is this type lining and is it okay to use? Other bands
They appear to be in good condition. I did not notice the order when I remove them. Should the one with the Scandinavia lining be put on the reverse band?

The transmission has a ring gear even though it does not have a starter. Transmission in my 1914
Could this mag ring be used with a starter? Is there supposed to be a notch on the mag ring when a starter is used?

How much play is allowable on the pedal cams? They appear to be worn. How do I determine how much wear is too much?

Thanks for any help in answering my questions. I want to replace any parts needed before I re-install the transmission cover.

Dennis, the lining in the second picture is brake lining with brass wire and really should not be used in the transmission as the brass wire is not good for the transmission, magneto, or engine. The first band ling is worn and the rivets are installed wrong. They should be relined. The flywheel and magneto are not correct for a 1914 engine. The magneto coil ring should be double stacked. I think the one you have would have been used 1917-19 but, I may be wrong. The flywheel is 1919 and later. Although not correct for your engine these parts should work fine. No, this mag ring cannot be used with a starter, unless you cut a notch in it and install a later hogshead. Also, most pedal cam are worn. They are very easy to replace when the hogshead is off so it is worth while to replace them now that you have the chance.

I agree that the bands are close to the end of their useful life. Once you have it apart to this degree best replace. I like Kevlar but that is my experience and recommendation, others may disagree. The rivets should be across the band, not in line. The mag ring is pre-starter and the mag ring will interfere with the starter.
There was very little play on the original pedals, I remember the pedals on the RipVanWinkle 1917 touring. I agree they can replaced so easily now, do it. Mind you the brake pedal needs a little more work....
