Hark, What light thru yon window breaks. It is the East and the Model T is the sun. Arise fair sun and kill the envious General Motors cars that art far more fair than she. Be not her maid as she is envious...

I should not post after 10:00pm.

It is the personal p!$$!#g contests that I cannot stand. So I don't read them.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

With two posters modifying Shakespeare, this has to be a place for uplifting knowledgeable discourse. I enjoy this Forum immensely, may it continue to grow and inspire people, as well as entertain.

I'd say the suit is a early polyester Material, created during the war time effort. It has Paged or bell bottom pants lags and It's also a little large for him. The shoulders should have more padding to give him broad shoulder look of the time.

Just my guess Steve.

Thanks to all of you who are "staying." There are always some threads some of us should skip (perhaps skip reading them or perhaps skip posting when we are tired, upset, etc.). But there is a wealth of information on the forum. And yes, some of the information is more accurate than other information -- or it may appear that way until newer information is discovered and/or shared.

And even more importantly, I believe there are some lasting friendships that have started here. Thanks for staying and contributing and as the intro says "Post for the good of the hobby.” That is usually good for each of us also.

It’s been a long day and it is relaxing for me to check out some of what is going on, what has been discovered, and how folks are doing.

Respectfully submitted,

Hap l9l5 cut off

Skipping only looks funny when doing it with a buddy, holding hands in the isles at Hershey.

It's ok to singular skip and its ok to skip alongside your best bud. Not many will be seen skipping with their spouse or s/o, however.

just sayin'

I'm honestly glad you decided to stay Steve. It would have been lonely here in the Sunflower state without you. Politics come and go and will always be a pain in our backside. But those who know how to drive and work on Model T's will in time become fewer and fewer. So you need to stick around just as long as God allows.

OK, I'll stick around except for occasional swap meets or auctions out of state. But I do have to go back to L.A. every year or two to remind myself how glad I am that I got the hell out.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Steve Jelf, Parkerfield KS on Friday, July 18, 2014 - 11:41 am:

I waited 24 hours before telling about Don's suit just to see if anybody else could explain it. The only thing "wrong" is that it isn't the current style. It's a prewar suit that he's had for several years. Before the war men's suits had double-breasted wide lapels, usually vests, and baggy trousers with cuffs. All that went away because of the diversion of so many textile products to military use during the war. To cut down on the amount of cloth used for civilian clothes, men's styles shifted to narrower lapels, no vest, and less roomy pants with no cuffs. And now you know the rest of the story. :-)

Steve, the problem with you asking what is "wrong" with this picture is that it is not "wrong" to wear something that is out of style (unless it is something from the 80s, and then it was wrong when it was in style) it is thrifty. So there was nothing wrong with the photo.

Women's hair looked much better in the 80's than today. They put a little effort into it.So not everything from the 80's was bad. :>)
But from what I understand the 80's is a hard era to find anything from as far as artifacts for a movie set or something because everything had started turning into cheap made junk.

I have never understood how anyone can wear a vest. A T-shirt, shirt, vest, and suit. You sweat to death in one of those outfits.

I usually just have a shirt and suit and I am still too hot.

To add to what Steve posted, it was also the first time that suit jackets didn't have to match the pants. It was call the "victory" suit.
