Broke the top to windshield hold down straps on our 15 roadster/pickup when I forgot to raise the garage door ALL the way up, duh! I removed the broken straps an decided to use a NOS set I've been holding onto. They lasted for several miles right up to when I hit a speed bump with a little to much gusto! Goes to show 90 year old cotton can be fine in looks but not in use.

Looks like an old khaki colored military web belt like I used to wear to hold up my trousers in the Marines. You could probably find old khaki web belt material on ebay that was used in belts, straps, backpacks and seabags with which to make duplicate hold down straps from. Jim Patrick

Ugh, that sucks.

You could probably burn the old straps in order to salvage the original metal belt tips and crimped fittings for use on your duplicate hold down straps. Be sure and carefully measure all dimensions before doing so.

I'd look at a military surplus store for some strap and sew up my own strap, Don.

You can get good reproduction straps with the rivets and caps installed from R.V. Anderson.

Better take some of the above advice. I just bought a new set from one of the suppliers. $77.50. Ouch!!!

My dad bought only the straps from RV Anderson - not the buckles.

The price was very reasonable, certainly not $77.50. If I can find his price list, I'll look it up.

Jay
I hope that you have another NOS pair for your parts collection. That a shame but things happen.

That's not the only place where old cotton can go bad.

Use triple loop bailing wire. Found a top years ago held on that way. Good old farmer fix. :-) New straps are the only authentic and secure way to go.
